Animal Textures: Workshop with Rebecca Green

Join us at The Warren for our Animal Textures Workshop where we explore the world of fur, feathers, and scales in gouache and colored pencil. Nashville based illustrator, Rebecca Green, will be teaching the four hour workshop, which will include discussion on materials, experimentation, and demonstrations. Each student will be also create his/her own finished piece of art to take home. This workshop is designed for beginner and intermediate artists, but all are welcome! 


The first half of the workshop will include materials and demonstrations. Each student will experiment with gouache applications, paintbrush styles, and paint + colored pencil combinations. Student will then watch three stylized painting demonstrations to learn about achieving animal textures through these mediums. 

LUNCH BREAK: 12 PM - 1 PM*

The second half of the workshop will be devoted to creating a finished piece of grayscale/black and white artwork on paper. Each student will choose to create a figure with fur, feathers, or scales (or a combination - make believe creatures are encouraged!) The instructor will be there throughout the process to guide and answer questions.

INCLUDES: In-class materials (Black and white gouache, paint brushes, greyscale colored pencils), printed painting guide, and paper for final artwork. 

*DOES NOT INCLUDE: Take-home materials or lunch (lunch cost is responsibility of student).

Rebecca Green is a children's and young adult book illustrator currently residing in Nashville TN. She works primarily in gouache and colored pencil, and dabbles in acrylic, collage, and three dimensional set and puppet building. Her work is playful, yet grounded, and often includes children and animals comprised of texture, patterns and flat colors. She has worked with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins, Frankie, Flow Magazine, and Penguin Random House.
